Theldon Myers has had a successful career as a much-performed ASCAP award-winning composer and arranger, while being a highly regarded University professor and music educator.

As have so many musicians of the last half century or so, he has pursued a multi-faceted career within a Music Education (University) setting, with his training including a BS degree from Northern Illinois University , an MA from California State University at Fresno , and a DMA from The Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University.

His compositional style has been described as “eclectic but original” which might be attributed to the influences of his many musical activities and studies, that took him from Chicago to California to Paris, and to Baltimore with activities such as dance band leader, player and arranger, school band and orchestra teacher, as well as a woodwind recitalist and studio teacher. His activities have also included conducting (other than University ensembles), being founding music director of the Desert Community Orchestra, and several years tenure as conductor of the Naval Ordnance Test Station Chapel Choir in California .

His clarinet, saxophone and flute studies were with Emerson Both (NBC Orchestra, Chicago Philharmonic, and Cleveland Orchestra), Jerome Stowell (Chicago Symphony), Santy Runyon (Chicago Theater), Russell Howland (Fresno Philharmonic), and advanced clarinet work with Marcel Jean (The Garde Republicaine Band and Paris Pasdeloup Orchestra).

Myers’ composition teachers include Arthur Bryon (Fresno), Wayne Bohrnstedt (University of Redlands), Sandor Veress and Stefans Grove (Peabody Conservatory), and the legendary Nadia Boulanger.

His music is performed internationally and has been played by the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra, the Conway Symphony Orchestra, the Erie Philharmonic Orchestra, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Kern Philharmonic Orchestra, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra of the Czech Republic, the Philharmonic Society of Vernon, France, the Susquehanna Symphony Orchestra, and the United States Navy Band.

His compositions and arrangements have been on the programs of many other organizations including the American Single Reed Workshop, the Catholic University Wind Symphony, the Chester String Quartet, the Civica Filarmonia of Morbio Inferiore, Italy, Clar-Fest International, the Dekalb Illinois Municipal Band (150 th anniversary in 2004), the Front Range Youth Symphony Orchestra, the International Double Reed Society, the International French Horn Society, the International Saxophone Symposium, the Linden Wind Orchestra of Surbiton, England, the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, the McHenry County Youth Orchestra, the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, the Peabody Conservatory Wind Ensemble, Res Musica Baltimore, the Spokane Junior Symphony, the Suburban Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Towson Chamber Players, the Towson University Chorale, the Towson University Symphonic Band, and the Western Piedmont Symphony Orchestra. Also, pianist Catherine Nardiello presents numerous performances of this music throughout European cities.

As a Music Department faculty member of Towson University ( Maryland ) since 1963, Myers is presently enjoying Professor Emeritus status while continuing to write for performance and publication. He has recently been Composer-in-Residence and a member of the Board of Directors of the Susquehanna Symphony Orchestra in Harford County , Maryland .
